Vamping in Camden.....

Now that the kids have moved on, we've found a new use for the family mini-van:  Vamping!!!  Camping out couldn't get much simpler, just pull out all of the seats cept for me and my farmer, and load up the van with an air mattress (someone ought to come up with one that fits perfectly in a van!...hint,hint), sleeping bags, and food.  And then just go!

Our pile of stuff!
We're lucky to live in Maine as we are w/n close proximity to the great outdoors!  We chose Camden for this mini getaway as it's a beautiful little town about 2-3 hours up the coast which has a state park at the bottom of a small mountain (Battie).  We wanted to do some hiking as well as some biking so at the last minute, we threw our bikes on top of the pile.  Here we go!
The set-up...burgers on the grill!

Our accommodations for the nigh!
State Parks in Maine are the best!....Usually, it cost $15 a night for a tent site, but off-season, it's $10...woot woot!....if we go for more than one night, we'd set up a tent, but it's not worth all of the work for just one night, hence the back of the mini-van!  As you can see, things are pretty tight back there...the farmer is about twice my size so I can certainly feel every time he turns over, gets up, etc....hence, I brought the pads (to the right), but, as you can see, that wasn't going to work....we both ended up on the air mattress and slept good enough for one night!  Oh, did I tell you that State Parks in Maine also have wireless?  So, we were able to upload a show on Hulu Plus on my ipad which I'd just happen to bring along!

This is Camden Harbor which was about a mile or so from the State Park.

My farmer forgot to pack some coffee mugs so we headed into town as soon as we got up.  After breakfast, it was back to the campground to check out, get on our bikes and head out on an adventure!  We looked at a map and decided that we'd head back into town (it was only about 1 1/2 miles away) and take the Bayview Road out to Rockport.  It turned out to be sweet ride, parts of it along the beautiful coastline, riding through the countryside...well, here, see for yourself!

exiting Rockport, back into Camden
Okay, that was about a 10-15 mile loop....not quite sure as we stopped quite a bit along the way as you can see.  It was really sweet and if you did it in the summertime, there were a couple of places you could stop along the way and take a dip in the ocean.....

We headed back to the campground where we loaded the bikes into the van, and drove less than 5 miles to hike up Maiden Cliff.  The hike up Maiden Cliff starts off a little steep, but that part if only .5 miles, then you get on to the ridge and it evens out for the last .5...and the view is quite spectacular!

funky old tree along the way
